NZGA Submission: Fast-Track Approvals Bill

In early 2024, the NZ Government announced its proposed Fast-Track Approvals Bill, aiming to reduce the length of the consenting process for infrastructure projects.

The changes proposed would impact the decisions made around future geothermal developments, and as such, the NZGA delivered this submission in response to the proposed bill. We wish to highlight that maintaining a balance between economic prosperity, environmental stewardship and social wellbeing is critical, and therefore recommend a higher level of transparency and engagement than currently proposed in the Bill.

Submissions closed on 19th April 2024, with the next steps for the Bill due to be announced.
