The NZGA has recently submitted a comprehensive set of measures to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) as part of their consultation on transitioning to an expanded and highly renewable electricity system.
In the submission, we emphasise the importance of maximising the potential of geothermal energy as a key component in achieving New Zealand's ambitious renewable energy targets. Our focus areas include expanding Aotearoa's Geoheat potential, as well as ensuring regulatory requirements enable geothermal development whilst protecting this taonga.
NZGA's submission is available here. With geothermal energy already playing a significant role in the country's energy mix, the NZGA believes that further investment and support for the sector can drive even greater success.
