The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), along with the Ministry for the Environment (MfE), has recently sought consultation on its proposed National Policy Statement for Renewable Electricity Generation (NPS REG) under the upcoming Resource Management Act (RMA) reforms. This is in order to inform policy regarding consenting renewable electricity infrastructure, ensuring Aotearoa's path towards 100% renewable electricity is adequately supported.
The NZGA has written this submission, to provide the geothermal sector's voice in the consultation process. There is a strong focus on wind and solar energy generation within the consultation document, and it is the NZGA's hope that geothermal energy generation is also recognised as a key element in supporting New Zealand's decarbonisation efforts, alongside these other renewables.
